Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark, founded in 1880, holds a unique place in America’s history, as a Southern constructed, blast furnace in a newly-created city. Immerse yourself in the nation’s only 20th century industrial museum, located in Birmingham, Alabama, with your camera and your imagination. Walk among the steel behemoths and work yards, now silent, and photograph a world that was actively producing 25% of our nation’s iron, a century ago. Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark is offering a unique opportunity for photographers with this 1-day workshop taught by Meg McKinney, a professional photojournalist.
Shadow and Contrast–Sloss Furnaces offers a wide array of colors, shapes, and lighting as you walk through the historic furnace site. This workshop focuses on best practices to photograph varying aspects of shadow and contrast throughout the site.
