Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark is a museum and educational institution. Its primary mission is the preservation of historic structures, interpretation of the site, and the promotion of metal arts. Sloss Furnaces encourages its visitors to take photographs of the site and structures as mementos of their visit.
Sloss Furnaces encourages scholars, researchers, planners, and students to use imagery of the site as it reflects in their work. No fees will apply but full credit must be given to Sloss in reports, essays, and articles. Donations are strongly encouraged. Regarding photography classes, the instructor must fill out the permission form and include the number of students on the site and ensure that all rules are followed.
Sloss Furnaces encourages civic and tourism photographs that serve to directly promote Sloss Furnaces, or Sloss functions. Photographers must complete an application for the shoot.
Sloss Furnaces encourages artists to photograph the site and may from time to time exhibit and interpret photographic visions of the site. If artistic photographs of Sloss are to be exhibited, full credit must be given to Sloss. In addition, if works are to be published or sold, Sloss requires an additional fee, negotiated prior to publication or sales.
Sloss Furnaces recognizes the need for organizations that rent the site to shoot promotional images for their event. Photographers must complete an application for the shoot.
As a historic site, Sloss Furnaces realizes that its site can provide a textural background for commercial or professional photographers. Commercial and professional photography are not reflected in our mission statement and can at times be an intrusion and hindrance to our mission.
Sloss Furnaces, however, does not prohibit this type of work but reserves the right to restrict or limit access to the site as it compromises our mission. Sloss Furnaces requests a donation commensurate to the level of intrusion onto the site, based on the number of personnel and equipment used.
In all instances photographers must complete and sign the single-use photograph application, general release, and initial the conditions form and abide by all rules and conditions of the site.
