Sloss Furnaces Education Department is developing school programs which will be appropriate for all age levels (pre-school, college, continuing education). Curriculum resource materials will be included. Sloss is actively involved in and are interested in creating more Museum-School collaboration and partnerships. We offer an Outreach Program, Tours for educators and students, Adult Lectures, Teacher Training, Community-based education programs and Volunteer/Docent opportunities. We also have resource materials for educators available in our museum store.

Take a self-guided tour of the site. No reservations required. 10:00-4:00 Tuesday-Saturday. 12:00- 4:00 Sundays. Closed Mondays.
04/30/2008 9:00 Spring Iron pours 2008
Take a tour of the furnace and make your very own piece of cast iron art. 9:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. Reservations Required. Space is limited.
04/02/2008 Tues-Sat 10am-4pm, Sun 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, Mon Closed. Please call ahead for reservations. Guided Group Tours (reservations required)
Take a docent guided tour of the site. The tour lasts approximately 1 hour. Please call 2 weeks in advance to make reservations for a guided tour (groups of 10-150). You do not need a reservation for a self-guided tour.

Invite Lil Red, a former Sloss employee, to your classroom or facility. He will tell you about the history of Birmingham and what it was like to work in a blast furnace.
