Sloss Summer Youth Display Their Artwork

The Birmingham Museum of Art will display works cast in iron by Birmingham area 
high school students who participated in the 2009 Sloss Furnaces Summer Youth Apprenticeship
Program.  The exhibit will be on display until November 29th.

During the eight-week apprenticeship, students work with professional artists at
 Sloss to learn the skills needed to produce cast iron art. The resulting exhibition
 features individual works of art, created by the apprentices, that reflects the
 students' experiences at Sloss.

The program, unique to the Birmingham area, aims to develop social and vocational
skills and promote understanding among young people of different racial and socioeconomic
backgrounds.
